GP Training

Undergraduate & Postgraduate Training

The practice has a significant commitment to teaching. We have been an approved training practice for several years, taking Specialist Training doctors in their final years of training and Year 5Medical Students from Manchester University.

Darwen Healthcare has received congratulations from the Department of Undergraduate Education for providing excellant teaching to the Year 5 Medical Student during the academic year 2014-2015 and 2015-2016. We would like to thank all our patients who gave consent for a Medical Student to be present during consultations.

Medical Students

You will be advised on arrival at the surgery if a student is present.  You can refuse to have the student in the consulting room, please let the receptionist know. Sometimes the clinical staff will be videoing consultations.  This is for training purposes only.  You can ask for the video to be switched off during your consultation

Foundation Year 2 Doctors

Once qualified, all Doctors have to spend a year in hospital. After this they are able to spend several months in General Practice under our supervision and training, giving even those who will become hospital - bound consultant or specialists a realistic taste of primary care.

ST3's (Formerly known as GP Registrars)

These are Doctors who have chosen to specialise in general practice, they have undergone further training in hospital in various specialties, after which they train under our supervision in the Practice for one year. After various exams they qualify as General Practitioners. They then have to apply for a G.P. Post.

The three approved trainers are Dr Mammen Ninan, Dr Christopher Dalton and Dr Raymond Sudell.
